Untitled (The Idealist and Contrarian), consists of 12 silent, 16mm colour films made over the duration of two years. They are collaborations between the artists Jon Baker and Matthew Burdis. A selection of the films are shown below.

The films were made to the following rules:

  1. All films will be 16mm colour, silent and 3 minutes in length.
  2. When one artist has completed a film reel it must be passed to the other who will film onto the same reel – creating a double exposure.
  3. There will be no discussion between us regarding subject matter or content.

The films created are silent, double exposures. Matthew Burdis works within moving image, dealing with the relationship to landscape through notions of memory and loss. Jon Baker creates representations of the body, often through manipulating and focusing in on microscopic organisms.

This series of films was funded by the Elephant Trust, and has been shown as part of the Serpentine Cinema series.
